Your first Sunday

If you haven’t been to church in a while, or ever, here’s what to expect.

  1. Drive in on the left. At 44 Hunter St, take the left-hand driveway and park behind the building. Please keep off the front lawn.
  2. Doors open at 3:15pm. Someone will meet you at the door and help you find a seat.
  3. We start at 3:30pm. We sing, pray, read from the Bible and hear a sermon on it. You’re welcome to just sit and listen.
  4. Stay for a coffee. Afterwards there’s coffee and afternoon tea. It’s a good time to meet people or have a chat with Daniel.

A few common questions

What should I wear?
Whatever you’re comfortable in. Most people are in casual clothes.
Do I need to be a Christian?
No. Whether you’re exploring faith or have followed Jesus for years, you’re welcome. Questions are welcome too.
Will I be put on the spot?
No. Nobody will ask you to stand up or introduce yourself.
Can I bring my kids?
Yes, please. They stay in the service with you. More below.
What kind of church is this?
An evangelical, Bible-teaching church. We preach through books of the Bible. Here’s what we believe.
Is there anything midweek?
Yes, a Bible study. Ask us on a Sunday or send a message.

Kids and families

We want to be a church for every generation, and families are a big part of that. For now, children stay in the service with their parents, and a bit of noise is fine.

A kids program starts in early 2027. Everyone who leads it will hold a Queensland Blue Card and complete child safety training.

Bringing little ones?

Sit wherever suits you. If you think you might need to step out, near the back is easiest. And stay for afternoon tea: that’s where kids make friends.

What we believe

The centre of it all is the good news of Jesus: that through his death and resurrection, God forgives and gives new life to everyone who trusts him.

  • The gospel at the centre. Jesus’ death and resurrection shape everything we do.
  • Bible teaching. We work through the Bible carefully and ask what it means for life here.
  • Real relationships. We want people to be known, cared for and prayed for.
  • Worship. We sing to God together, gladly.
  • Reaching others. We want our neighbours in Hervey Bay to hear about Jesus.

The Bible

We sit under the authority of the Bible and accept it as the Word of God, able to save, nurture and correct us. We are committed to expository preaching as the means by which believers are taught and inspired to live a godly life.

God

We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the Living Word, became flesh through his miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and his virgin birth. Fully God and fully man, he lived a sinless life and died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. On the third day he rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where he is now our Saviour, High Priest and Mediator.

Salvation

Forgiveness is freely given as we turn from sin in repentance and embrace the completed sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as atonement for our sins. Those who sincerely accept Christ as Saviour receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and are spiritually born again.

Baptism

We hold to full immersion water baptism, not as a means of salvation, but as an act of obedience following salvation, in accordance with the command of Christ.

The church

The true Church is made up of all who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, are united in the body of Christ. Believers are commanded to proclaim the gospel throughout the world and make disciples of all nations.

Jesus’ return

Jesus Christ will come again to the earth, personally, visibly and bodily, to judge the living and the dead, and to bring history and God’s eternal plan to its completion.

Our pastor

Daniel Abou-Zeid has pastored Surf Coast Chapel in Torquay, Victoria, for about ten years. After moving to Hervey Bay, he and his wife Michelle felt God calling them to start a Bible-teaching church here. They have five children and host The Common Life Podcast together.

Daniel would be glad to meet you, after church or over a coffee during the week.
